The actual salary for this position will be determined by a number of factors, including the scope, complexity and location of the role; the skills, education, training, credentials and experience of the candidate; and other conditions of employment. As part of our comprehensive compensation and benefits program, employees are also eligible for performance-based cash incentive awards.Salary Range$157,000.00 - $259,200.00Target Openings1What Is the Opportunity?Travelers is seeking a (Gen AI) Lead Data Engineer to join our dynamic team. In this role, you will be lead the team in designing, developing and maintaining robust, scalable, and efficient solutions to support our Generative AI initiatives. You will collaborate closely with business stakeholders, architects, data scientists, machine learning engineers, and software developers to design and implement innovative data-driven applications and systems.What Will You Do?Lead Design, development configuration, and/or maintenance for Gen AI applications, including data ingestion, processing, storage, and analysisSupport the creation of Gen AI products within our cloud environmentsGuide and coach technical team membersCollaborate with tech/ data partners, business stakeholders, data scientists and engineers to create Retrieval-Augmented Generation (RAG) solutions and integrate LLM models into production-grade applications.Develop APIs and microservices to facilitate data access and integration across various components of the Gen AI platform.Implement best practices for code quality, testing, and documentation to ensure the reliability, maintainability, and scalability of our software systems.Stay up-to-date with the latest trends and technologies in data engineering and Gen AI, applying them to enhance our platform.What Will Our Ideal Candidate Have?Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related field; Master's degree preferred.Ten years of programming/development experience preferred.Four years of Tech leadership experienceProven experience as a Full Stack Designer / architect or similar role, with a strong focus on data engineering and Gen AI applications.Proficiency in programming languages such as Python and SQL.Familiarity with cloud platforms such as AWS and related services (e.g., AWS Lambda, S3, EC2, RDS, Redshift).Experience with containerization and orchestration technologies such as Docker, Kubernetes, or ECS.Strong understanding of database systems and data processing frameworks (e.g., SQL, NoSQL, Spark, Databricks).Good understanding and experience of Gen AI concepts like Agentic Frameworks, RAG, LLM, Chunking, and Hyper-parameters.Excellent problem-solving skills and ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative environment.Strong communication and interpersonal skills, with the ability to effectively interact with cross-functional teams.What is a Must Have?Bachelors degree or equivalent training with data tools, techniques, and manipulation.Seven years of data engineering or equivalent experience.What Is in It for You?Health Insurance: Employees and their eligible family members including spouses, domestic partners, and children are eligible for coverage from the first day of employment.Retirement: Travelers matches your 401(k) contributions dollar-for-dollar up to your first 5% of eligible pay, subject to an annual maximum.
