Title: Director, Environmental, Health & Safety

Location: Chelsea, MA


This position has overall responsibility for all EH&S activities for the Boston site. This involves developing and implementing site wide health, safety, environmental, and security programs designed to respond to potential situation and to enhance site overall business continuity and site safety. The position will ensure compliance with Federal and State regulations following Catalent guidelines to guarantee the safety of all employees, visitors and contractors in the facility. Specific programs include but are not limited to: incident prevention, minimization and/or eliminating health and safety hazards, fire system management, security system management, business continuity, crisis management, EHS&S program and policy management and proactive loss prevention activities.

The individual must be a creative and proactive contributor, while remaining focused on continual improvement showing the highest level of efficiency, integrity and enthusiasm while striving to maintain the safest working environment possible. This position requires communication with employees at all levels including Corporate, other Catalent sites and different agencies such as OSHA, EPA, DEP, DEA and Fire Department. This position also oversees security guards, receptionists and housekeeping.

Take action/steps to identify, assess and recommend control measures or corrective action(s) for environmental, health and safety concerns.
Conduct hazard identification and risk assessments that apply to task, departments, and the overall site that includes but is not limited to: chemical use, machine safeguarding, ergonomics, walking-working surfaces, material handling, etc, to reduce the risk and prevent work related injuries and illnesses.
Chair of safety committee and maintains visibility of the safety program and open lines of communications with all employees regarding safety.
Conduct EHS audits, inspections, hazard assessments and investigations of violations as required and make recommendations based off findings. This includes EHS audits of other Catalent facilities as requested by Global EHS.
Lead incident and accident investigations assuring corrective actions are taken to minimize or prevent similar future incidents. Ensure all incident data is loaded into Entropy corporate software.
Responsible for current knowledge of local, state and federal regulations including but not limited to OSHA, EPA, NFPA, RCRA, ANSI, FDA, GMP , etc.
Maintain the accident records and files necessary to back up the OSHA 300 log and any other OSHA requirement. Evaluate cases to decrease the accident rate using safety assessments, industrial hygiene sampling and following OSHA regulations and Catalent Guidelines.
Manage the Workers Compensation program, monitor treatment for appropriateness, monitor fees, track injuries, and provide metrics to management.
Be the liaison between the site and the environmental and safety agencies.
Lead internal and external customers with regards to Environmental Health Safety and Security issues, including special projects, new products, and complaints or concerns.
Conduct necessary assessments, inventories and inspections for various environmental and safety regulations.
Ensure up to date Job Hazard Assessments and risk assessments are in place for all processes.
Manage the Industrial Hygiene program. Ensure Industrial Hygiene Assessments are conducted, employees are trained, and appropriate engineering controls are placed to ensure employees are not overexposed.
Coordinate medical surveillance and occupational health program - including but not limited to medical surveillance as necessary, bloodborne pathogens vaccinations and incident investigation, respiratory protection clearance and annual requirements, new hire physicals and training of all site personnel on these programs.
Manage the environmental compliance program to ensure compliance on programs such as CAA, CWA, and RCRA.
Develop and conduct training programs and the training of staff at all levels, including new hires, on company safety policies, practices, and programs.
Manages employee safety benefit programs including but not limited to safety shoes, prescription safety glasses, lab coats, and other personal protective equipment
Chair of the site Crisis Management and Business Continuity program
Manage RCRA and DOT compliance in the facility, including waste handling and manifest management.
Maintain files and documentation records as required by environmental regulations such as CAA, CWA and RCRA.
Prepares monthly inspections and reports to comply with current environmental permits such as air and wastewater.
Develop new EHS related programs and procedures following OSHA, EPA and Catalent Guidelines.
Prepares reports to regulatory agencies as required.
Submits environmental permit applications and renewals to the proper authorities.
Manage Facility Security Systems, such as, fire, access control, intrusion detection and CCTV monitoring system.
Oversee onsite security and housekeeping contractors.
Oversee grounds keeping including mowing, snow removal, green spaces, fencing, sidewalks, and signage.

Education or Equivalent: (Minimum required to perform job)

Bachelor's Degree (B.S.). Requires 5 - 10 years appropriate experience in an industrial setting, preferably pharma ceutical.

Knowledge/Skills Requirements: (List unique knowledge skills, or problem-solving requirements)

Must be computer literate. Must complete projects with little director and have good interpersonal skills and leadership characteristics.

Physical Requirements:

Individual may be required sit for extended periods. Specific vision requirements include reading of written documents and use of computer monitor screen frequently.
