Growth Happens Here.About the RoleReporting to the Senior Director of Finance, the Director of Accounting drivesthe monthly and quarterly accounting cycle, prepares for and leads our audits, builds and improves financial reports, and contributes to special projects that will make Excel's Finance Team best-in-class. Excel Academy Charter Schools is committed to building a and strongly encourage applications from candidates who share demographic points of intersection with our students.Duties & ResponsibilitiesServe as the owner for Excel's accounting system

  • Collaborate and set vision and goals for the 3-person accounting team
  • Set strategic choices for our use of our accounting system
  • Set policies for workflows, month and quarterly close processes, and controls
  • Contribute to and, as appropriate, manage special projects within the departmentManage and refine Excel's key accounting processes
    • Prepare monthly balance sheet reconciliations
    • Reconcile bank accounts
    • Prepare journal entries as needed
    • Payroll and benefits
    • Accounts receivable and accounts payableOwn external reporting and audit process
      • Prepare audits, financial statements and varied fiscal reports
      • Review accounting documents to ensure accuracy of information and complianceQualifications
        • Bachelor's Degree in Accounting or Finance and at least 6 year of applicable work experience strongly preferred;
        • Non-Profit accounting experience preferred;
        • Proficient or expert with QuickBooks, Sage Intacct, and Microsoft Excel;
        • Dynamic individual with strong interpersonal, problem-solving, and written and oral communication skills;
        • Ability to operate in an entrepreneurial, demanding environment;
        • The ability to focus and thrive in a fast paced, entrepreneurial environment;
        • A commitment to and belief in all students and the mission of Excel Academy Charter Schools, including Excel's values and educational model;
        • A commitment to addressing racial and economic inequity in education;Preference will be given to applicants who also:
          • Speak languages commonly spoken by our families and students, such as Spanish, Portuguese, Arabic
