DETAILED JOB DESCRIPTION
Reporting to the Director, the Senior Manager, Visitor Experience plans, develops and administers visitor experience services and programs for Gatineau Park and Qu--bec Urban Lands according to the guidelines and directives of the Gatineau Park Master Plan and other current plans. The individual also determines management procedures, develops, and negotiates third party agreements with private sector and community interests. The Senior Manager manages human and financial resources for internal programs and services. The individual acts as a NCC spokesperson to interest groups, media and partners to explain corporate positions and/or negotiate agreements and advises senior executives on operational and strategic issues.
ESSENTIAL QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION
University degree in Outdoor Recreation, Tourism, Business Management or in a related field to the position .
EXPERIENCE
A minimum of five (5) years of experience in the following criteria:


  • Planning and managing public, recreation, outdoor, or public service programs in the context of a protected natural space;
  • Developing and planning strategies, programs, policies, and action plans related to the visitor experience;
  • Managing projects, developing and supervising complex contracts;
  • Collaborating with various internal and external partners and managing agreements with different levels of government and non-governmental organizations;
  • Communicating with the public, the media, other governmental agencies, and interest groups to promote activities and programs or explain actions, guidelines, or decisions;
  • Managing professional and technical human resources;
  • Managing and controlling budget.

    KNOWLEDGE

    • Of the NCC mandate, directives of the Gatineau Park Master Plan, the Gatineau Park Sustainable Transportation Plan, and the Urban Lands Management Plan
    • Of the development and management of complex contracts and of the principles and industry standards associated with third-party services (private, public or community);
    • Of reception and information services as well as principles and practices associated with communication and of public engagement (with users, citizens and interest groups);
    • Of project management as well as program and activity evaluation procedures;
    • Of the management of parks, recreation, particularly outdoor recreation in the context of a natural protected space;
    • Of issues relating to the practice and management of recreational activities in protected areas;
    • Of interpretation and education in the natural environment and heritage.

      • To apply technical and scientific knowledge in developing projects and programs for a vast and complex portfolio;
      • To develop and manage projects in sectors such as recreation, outdoor programs, and visitor experience;
      • To work efficiently at strategic and operational levels, as part of a project team or on an individual basis;
      • To respond to multiple demands and deal with conflicting priorities, analyze and resolve complex, changing issues and make efficient use of limited resources;
      • To interact effectively and build networks and alliances both internally and externally;
      • To exercise diplomacy and political awareness, and to negotiate effectively with multiple stakeholders.

          • Master's Degree in a field of expertise relevant to the position.

            CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT

            • Possess or eligible to obtain Secret security clearance;
            • Linguistic profile: Bilingual CCC;
            • Possess a valid driver's licence;
            • Do field work in difficult conditions;
            • May work irregular hours, nights, weekends;
            • Work mainly from the Gatineau Park Visitor Centre.
