Senior Software Engineering Manager (Sr Manager SW Eng (HORL)) at
Canon USA Healthcare Optics Research Lab in Cambridge, MA will be
responsible for leading the software engineering team for design,
implementation and verification of next generation clinical imaging
and robotics systems in collaboration with world's leading medical
institutions. This is a highly visible role where you will join the
project leadership team having an opportunity to directly interact
with key stakeholders including key opinion leaders and world-class
researchers. We are seeking a highly-motivated, execution-focused
leader with the ability to define roles and activities necessary
for a successful product commercialization.This position is full
time and offers a hybrid work schedule requiring you to be in the
office three days per week and an option to work from home two days
per week. Note that work schedules and office reporting
requirements may change from time to time based on business needs.
Responsibilities- Lead and manage development of software
architecture and functionality for the robotic system including
identification of the requirements, architecture design, technology
stacks, GUI, database and hardware control to meet future needs and
scalability, especially with emphasis on modularity and portability
to allow reuse across a suite of application- Lead and manage a
software engineering team by developing, mentoring and coaching
each engineer as appropriate. Inspire and motivate the team members
to achieve individual and project goals for on-time product
delivery with exceptional quality- Lead software system development
efforts with subsystems developed in remote locations by
interfacing with them as technical lead- Work closely with Design &
Usability to develop the best user experience with the application
software for the robotic system by interacting with clinical
collaborators in hospitals- Contribute to collaborative research
projects for the next generation clinical imaging and robotics
systems- Define and improve software development processes
including development infrastructure. Promote good software design
practices at every stage of development Evaluate and apply coding
and design practices to the new products- Ensure compliance with
Canon quality policies, procedures, and practices including 21 CFR
Part 820 and IEC 62034 - Medical device software - Software life
cycle processes- Ensure documentation throughout all phases of
research and development- Work effectively in cross-functional
teams consisting of Clinical, Design & Usability, Marketing,
R&D, Quality, and Regulatory- Report progress regularly to
upper managementResults Expected- Delivers highest quality software
code- Delivers documentation of software requirements, design,
implementation, integration and testing- Delivers algorithms for
various applications across several platforms- Effective project
management and meet project milestones- Effective team building and
people management- Author software development schedule and
verification test plans Qualifications- Bachelor's degree in
Computer Science, Computer Engineering or similar or equivalent
experience required- 9+ years of software design and development
experience within Medical Devices- Management experience of two or
more regular full-time employees- Strong technical knowledge of
software engineering, both DevOps and processes, is required- Sound
decision making and risk analysis skills on software- Experience
measuring and reporting software quality-related metrics-
Experience in project management of medical devices under Design
Control (21 CFR Part 820) and ISO 14971, and developing to and
compliance with IEC62304- Experience with Software Agile
Development methodology (AAMI TIR45)- Experience working with C++
or any other modern programming language- Experience with SQL or
any other database technology- Excellent oral and written
communication skills with the ability to communicate clearly to
upper management and other stakeholders in different functions at
various levelsNice-to-Have- Familiarity with DICOM and PACS is a
