Job Description - Patient Services Coordinator I, Chelsea (Per-diem) (3148835) Under general supervision of the Operations Manager and Technical Manager incumbent performs various reception and/or scheduling tasks for the various divisions of the Radiology Department. Schedules patient appointments using an on-line registration/scheduling system. Edits, cancels, confirms patient appointments. Receives patients and directs them to the appropriate testing area, arranging for escort services as required and instructing patients in gowning procedures. Previews, online, the daily schedule; prints, sorts and distributes daily schedule and functions as a resource to appropriate Radiology divisions. Checks and confirms patient demographics and insurance information. May include duties andresponsibilities of the Clerk or Office Assistant as well as: Using the IDXrad on-lineregistration and scheduling system, schedules inpatient and outpatienttests.Enters, edits and/or confirms allpatient demographic, financial and clinical data elements.Obtains patient history and other pertinentclinical data (i.e. allergies, precautions, etc.).Verifies routing of patient reports,physician name and patient location.Confirms availability of exam rooms and keeps abreast of any scheduledeviations and instrument downtime. Edits, cancels and reschedulestest requests.Informs patients and/orphysicians of potential schedule changes. Responds to telephone requestsand processes telephone calls according to established telephone guidelines andhospital patient confidentiality policy. Greets and receives patients asthey arrive for appointments.Providesinformation to patients, visitors and Hospital personnel, observing Hospital andDepartmental policies and procedures. Checks in patients, verifyingdemographic, financial and clinical information.Confirms appointment time and confirmsaccuracy of the related computer printouts and/or requisitions. Uses ElectronicData Interchange (EDI) related software and PCIS to accurately verify patientregistration and insurance information. Assists patients in gowningprocedures and explains exam preparation procedures.Arranges for escort services to appropriatetesting areas as necessary. Ensures the completeness of allforms. May generate Quality AssuranceStatistics. Provides cross coverage. Knows medical terminology and mayperform as a Medical Transcriptionist. Maintains the physicalenvironment and examination rooms. Coordinates and tracks patientreferral appointments. Performs all other duties thatare practice specific and are appropriate to this level of position. Arrangesfor follow up appointments. SKILLS/ ABILITIES/ COMPETENCIES REQUIRED: Knowledge of basic wordprocessing packages Basic computer skills necessaryto use computerized scheduling/billing systems Typing and/or word processingspeed approximately 45-50 WPM Good grammar and spelling Excellent customer service andcommunication skills Ability to deal effectively andcourteously with a diverse group of internal and/or external customers Good organizational skillsrequired to handle multiple tasks in busy environment May require dictaphone and/ormedical terminology Ability to problem solve andadapt to flexible work hours in a variety of divisions Basic understanding of varioustypes of medical coverages Ability to maintain customerservice standards and work with minimal supervision High School Diploma Minimum of 1 to 3 years of secretarial experience, preferably in a clinical setting Associates preferred Massachusetts General Hospital is an Equal Opportunity Employer.
